The Sloan Consortium is now the Online Learning Consortium

Online learning is who we are and what we do.

Since our founding in 1992, we've become the go-to source for everything related to online learning. And now, it is reflected in our name.

Two decades ago, we began our mission as the Sloan Consortium to advance quality onlline learning insight and programs by providing early online educators with original research, leading-edge instruction and expert guidance. Simply put, online learning is who we are and what we do. And now, it is reflected in our name - the Online Learning Consortium.

Originally funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the organization is now a non-profit, 501(c)(3) member-sustained organization. The organization’s reach and impact has grown significantly since it was first conceived. We aim to extend our presence, mission, programs and service into new markets worldwide. Rebranding as the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) enables us to clearly represent and position the organization, and extend our presence, mission, programs and services into new markets worldwide.

“Our organization’s reach and impact has grown significantly since Sloan-C was first conceived in 1992,” said Kathleen Ives, D.M., Online Learning Consortium acting chief executive officer and executive director, Online Learning Consortium. “Almost two decades later, and now a self-sustaining organization, the time has come to rebrand as we move into new markets worldwide.”

Although our name has changed, our focus has not.  We will continue to provide the resources that position our members to compete in this changing marketplace.  The new name more clearly articulates where we are headed as well as where we’ve been.  OLC members will continue to have access to the same community, publications, research, programs, conferences and other resources they have always enjoyed through Sloan-C membership.

The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) is the leading professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of online learning worldwide. The member-sustained organization offers an extensive set of resources for professional development and institutional advancement of online learning, including original research, leading-edge instruction, best-practice publications, community-driven conferences and expert guidance. OLC members include educators, administrators, trainers and other online learning professionals, as well as educational institutions, professional societies and corporate enterprises.
