An infographic is a visual representation of data and are becoming one of the most commonly used methods of conveying information and they are becoming a great educational resource to use in both teaching and learning. Join Julia VanderMolen as she explores how infographics help students with literacy skills necessary to research, critique, summarize, and communicate information.
By definition an infographic is a visual representation of data. This representation is multi-modal in the sense that it can have different forms of text: flowcharts, diagrams images, and many more. What makes Infographics so popular is their visual attractiveness. They can be used to display data, trends, ideas, and much more. Infographics are informative and eye catching images that are beginning to be very popular in classrooms across the nation. As abundant of the types of infographics, are the tools available to build them.
In this webinar participants will learn,
• how infographics help students with literacy skills necessary to research, critique, summarize, and communicate information.
• about the various tools used to create infographics. Tools such as Nerdgraph, Piktochart, and Easelly will be demonstrated.

Dr. Julia VanderMolen is an Assistant Professor Allied Health Sciences with Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is a 2011 Teaching Excellence Award and 2012 Blackboard Exemplary Course Award winner. She has expertise in online learning and currently provides expertise to the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) as a member of the research committee for best teacher education practice. She graduated with a Ph.D in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Career and Technical Education from Western Michigan University. She has a M.Ed in Educational Technology from Grand Valley State University and a MA in Health Science from the University of Alabama. She has presented at a number of conferences on the topic of educational technology and online learning.
