Learning Management System Migration: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Using a web-based interactive polling tool (Sli.do), attendees select and prioritize from our menu of modular presentation topics, enabling us to share our experience and guide discussion on learning management system migration – the good, the bad, and the ugly! Questions and attendee insights will be captured and shared.
This presentation reviews our process of selecting, implementing, training for, and deploying a new learning management system. Using a web-based interactive polling and question tool (Sli.do), attendees select and prioritize from our menu of modular presentation topics, enabling us to share our experience and guide discussion in a manner that will be of most use to the attendees. We will share our experiences, lessons learned, and recommended best practices (according to the literature) with learning management system migration – the good, the bad, and the ugly! Questions and attendee insights will be captured and shared during the session.
Texas A&M University-Central Texas is an upper-level and graduate university. It has been an independent institution within the Texas A&M University System since 2009, and was independently accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in 2013. With four fully online undergraduate programs and three fully online graduate programs, more than 40% of our SCH (semester credit hours) comes from online enrollment.
In 2016, A&M-Central Texas began the process of moving from Blackboard to Canvas for course develpment and delivery, online faculty training, and for the institutional intranet. The successful selection, migration, and training of faculty to effectively use the new LMS was critical.
- Awareness: of the range of challenges involved in transitioning to a new Learning Management System (LMS).
