Brief Abstract

Maggie shares the limitations of her idealized, glorious, 'fail-proof' virtual reality assignment for her business and technical writing class.

Maggie is a PhD candidate and American Association of University Women Fellow at the University of Arizona. She's a serial maker. She co-founded and now helps manage the UA's makerspace, the iSpace. She enjoys embedding circuits into things, additive and subtractive fabrication, dabbling with AI, digital world making, and more. She is an incoming assistant professor of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Extended Abstract

I was on a project team that deployed virtual reality technologies in the composition and business writing classes. We, the project team, were awarded a grant to support the project and the students' reception of the virtual reality assignment caught us all by surprise.
