Insider's View: How Do EdTech Companies and Universities Align Their Interests (and Get Deals Done!)

Workshop Session 1

Brief Abstract

This session will provide a unique perspective of both the buyer’s and seller’s journeys, in which edtech companies successfully sell new technology into institutions. How do universities really evaluate new technology and make decisions? How do edtech company’s authentically align their solutions with institutional missions. Entangled Velocity will share proprietary data about the top institutional strategic objectives, analyzed across a large selection of university strategic plans. We’ll also hear several case studies, in which institutions and edtech companies successfully aligned interests to the benefit of students, instructors, and administrators.   

For Institutions, you will learn:

  • What are the strategic priorities that your peers are identifying in their strategic plansas
  • How tech companies are better understanding the mission and needs of the institutions

For technology companies, you will learn:

  • What are the best practices successful tech companies have used to align with institutions missions
  • What are the top priorities across a wide variety of universities and colleges
  • How to align your technology solution with the institutional mission and priorities


Casey is the Director of Growth at Entangled Velocity. Alongside working on partnerships with education technology companies and institutions she specializes in building sophisticated sales and marketing systems for them. Prior to joining the team, she spent the last 6 years working with Bay Area startups helping to build marketing, sales, customer success, and customer support teams. Casey earned a degree in physics from King’s College London and an MSE in nanotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Levi is an entrepreneur and business executive experienced in leading innovation in consumer and education technology organizations. Levi currently leads a rapidly growing new business within Wyzant that works directly with Higher Ed institutions to drive retention and completion rate increases via Wyzant’s unique approach to relationship-based targeted tutoring interventions. Levi holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Adam is the co-founder of PeopleGrove and has served as its Chief Executive Officer since inception. His team has worked with the world's best traditional and nontraditional universities, including Stanford, Michigan, UMUC and PSU World Campus, to help every student succeed professionally and personally. He previously worked at Google as a Business Analyst from 2013 to 2014, performing data analysis as well as informing strategic decisions for the Online Partnerships Group (OPG). Prior to Google, he served as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Global Technology Group of Credit Suisse. During this time, he advised a number of fast-growing and established software and Internet companies. Specifically, he worked on the IPOs of both Rocket Fuel and He holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
