Lead Presenter: Christopher Sessums, D2L

Dr. Christopher Sessums is the Director of Academic Affairs at D2L working with higher education institutions across the globe to optimize student success and institutional effectiveness. Prior to joining D2L, Christopher served as a faculty member, researcher, and administrator at the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Education, at the University of California, Berkeley, and at the University of Florida. His research interests include assessment strategies, data and analytics, alternative learning models, lean business strategies, and educational policy.

Institutions of higher education are involved in a variety of initiatives to support the professional development of faculty members. In this session, we will review, analyze, and discuss the ways in which institutions are looking at and approaching professional development to enhance faculty productivity and effectiveness. This is an interactive session where participants will be asked to share and discuss prior knowledge and experience as it relates to using professional development strategies and techniques. This session will include time to review the challenges associated with professional development in education and the strategies that faculty and administrators can use to overcome them.
