Meet Dr. Melanie Borrego

Melanie Borrego serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the School of Arts and Sciences at Brandman University. A division of Chapman University and a private, not for profit institution, Brandman University provides online and blended classes to approximately 12,000 adult learners at 26+ campuses across California and Washington. In this role, Dr. Borrego is responsible for supporting faculty and students, assessment of student learning, online campus scheduling, the recruitment, development, and mentoring of adjunct faculty, and General Education program development. She is the Coordinator for the Associate of Arts Degree and the BA in Applied Studies Degree programs as well as the Prior Learning Assessment and Experiential Learning programs.

Dr. Borrego has a long-term commitment to supporting educational innovation through participation in such organizations as the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE), Computer Users in Education (CUE), the American Association of Academic Deans (ACAD), and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). She has given presentations on a variety of tools for online teaching, using the Lumina Degree Qualifications Profile (DQP) in the creation of an AA degree and Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs), leveraging technology to integrate remediation support in gateway writing courses (making the remediation a co-requisite rather than a prerequisite) and developing a competency-based degree program. She is a member of the University’s IT committee and is a content developer for and General Education representative on Brandman’s Competency-Based Education Program Council.
