OLC Launches Research Center for Digital Learning and Leadership
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (Sept. 26, 2017) — The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) today announced the launch of the OLC Research Center for Digital Learning and Leadership. The new OLC Research Center aims to advance digital teaching and learning through timely delivery of research for use in the field.
“The launch of the OLC Research Center enables us to synthesize and expand upon OLC’s existing research resources, providing a comprehensive research hub for the community,” said Kathleen Ives, D.M., CEO and executive director, OLC. “We are excited to be moving into original research, as we continue to feature other industry studies and collaborate with the OLC professional and institutional community to deliver the most relevant research possible.”
Under the direction of OLC’s Senior Director of Research and Innovation Jill Buban, Ph.D., the OLC Research Center will offer original, curated, commissioned, and sponsored research opportunities, and consulting and presentation services in areas related to digital learning and digital leadership research. It also features research publications, like OLC’s own peer-reviewed journal, Online Learning, podcasts, and infographics, offering researchers and practitioners resources they need to support their work in the field.
“Our intention is that the OLC Research Center will give online learning professionals a new channel for discovering, publishing and sharing important research and insights that can benefit our global community,” said Dr. Buban.
“We look forward to collaborating with the OLC Research Center and being able to access evidence to guide practices and further research in a timely manner due to the fast-evolving state of digital education,” said Tanya Joosten, Ph.D., Director, Digital Learning Research and Development, Academic Affairs and Co-Director, National Research Center for Distance Education and Technological Advancements, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Research assets will be organized in key content areas, including: Teaching & Learning, Instructional Design/Learning Design, Leadership, Digital Learning and more.
Additionally, there will be a focus on doctoral student outreach and participation, and their increased visibility in the field through an Emerging Scholar program, as well as opportunities to present at conferences.
