Sloan-C and MERLOT Announce ‘Best-in-Track’ Awards for Upcoming International Symposium for 'Emerging Technologies for Online Learning’



Outstanding session presenters will be recognized during a ceremony at ET4Online, which is produced jointly by Sloan-C and MERLOT, April 9-11, in Dallas.



NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (Feb. 12, 2014)—The Sloan Consortium and MERLOT today announced “Best-in-Track” sessions, recognizing exceptional speaker submissions for the 7th Annual International Symposium for Emerging Technologies for Online Learning (ET4Online), which is produced jointly by Sloan-C and MERLOT, and takes place April 9-11, in Dallas, Texas.



The Best-in-Track designation is awarded to the session proposal in each track that has achieved distinction in the review process. The selection is made from any combination of the following: highest combined review score, closest alignment to the conference goals, or recognition for distinction through peer reviewers, with final selection by the ET4Online Program Chair(s) and Conference Chair.

The 2014ET4Online Best-in-Track recipients are:



•    Open Education Track: “The Human Factor in MOOCing: Add Dynamic Human Elements to Create a Successful MOOC Experience,” Monica Surrency, Helen Anderson, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide, and Shannon J. Field, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – (ERAU) 

•    Faculty and Student Development Track: “Gamification and Faculty Development: Practices From a Pilot Program,” Nakia Pope, Lisa Hammonds, Adeline Meira, Texas Wesleyan University

•    Innovative Media and Tools Track: “To What Degree Does Access to Mobile Devices Interfere with Attentiveness and Engagement in the Classroom?,” Perry Samson, University of Michigan

•    Evidence-based Learning Track: “Effects of Belongingness and Synchronicity on Face-to-Face and Online Cooperative Learning,” Andrew Saltarelli, Stanford University

•    Learning Environments Track: “Twelve Strategies to Promote Online Growth While Ensuring Quality,” Brian Udermann, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse



Best-in-Track Awards will be presented during a luncheon ceremony at the conference. 



ET4Online will also feature hands-on workshops and a range of sessions highlighting emerging practices and practical applications of technology in higher educationby educational institutions around the world.
