Brief Abstract

Learn how to increase retention and engagement through personalized mobile communication and engagement strategies that every department can implement. Plan timely communication that your students need on the go, and develop tactics for your institutional mobile strategy that will help promote a sense of community for all students. 
 
 

Presenters

Ryan Seilhamer has been part of the Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) since 2000. During this time he has served many roles at CDL, which include web development, student support, and multimedia production. Since 2009, he has served as an instructional designer assisting faculty in the design and development of online and blended courses. During this time he has published and shared research related to emerging technologies and best practices for teaching and learning online. His main research area is mobile learning where he leads the UCF Mobile Initiative. Since the inception of the UCF Mobile Initiative in 2010, Ryan has focused on mobile apps for online teaching and learning, with Canvas Mobile being his focus. In 2014, he started the Canvas Mobile User Group (CMUG), which is now part of the Canvas Community. He has presented on Canvas Mobile at various institutions, CanvasLIVE, CanvasCon, and InstructureCon. In 2014, he became a Canvassador, and in 2016 became a Canvas Coach with a specialization in mobile apps and technology.

Successful methodologies coupled with learning technology can be implemented across an institution to mitigate the challenges of increasing enrollment and declining retention rates while elevating personal student communication and engagement.
