Brief Abstract

Join us for the Global Quality Summit (GQS) as part of the Accelerate conference, hosted by OLC and CMS Global. In the GQS, you will have opportunities to learn, discuss and share best practices in online and digital learning with high level representatives from global top 100 schools including,  Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong), and Shenzhen University (China).  You will also hear from President of the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE).  More great speakers continue to be added, so check back regularly.

In this interactive and informative summit, we will kick off with a panel of speakers discussing how quality in digital learning is addressed in their region of the world.  You will then have an opportunity to collaborate with other higher education professionals, to identify solutions to current problems and future trends in digital learning.  The second part of this exciting event will include speakers from top universities and organizations throughout Greater China who will share their perspectives and experiences related to online and digital learning.

Presenters

Jennifer Mathes, Ph.D serves as the Chief Executive Officer at the Online Learning Consortium. In this role, she provides the strategic direction for the organization and supports the development of key projects and programs to support OLC members. Dr. Mathes has 25 years of experience in both public and private education where she has continuously supported digital learning initiatives. In addition, Dr. Mathes is the author of the ICDE Report Global Quality in Online, Open, Flexible and Technology Enhanced Education: An Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (2019) and co-editor of the OLC Quality Scorecard Handbook: Criteria for Excellence in Blended Learning Programs (2017). She continues to write and present on key topics in online, blended and digital learning.
Professor Hanqin Qiu is a Professor of international tourism. She received her BA from Nankai University in Mainland China, her MA from University of Waterloo in Canada, and her PhD from University of Strathclyde in UK. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Quality Assurance in Hospitality and Tourism. She has published more than 80 referenced journal articles in leading hospitality and tourism journals. Professor Qiu is also a regular speaker at international conferences and events. Currently she is the also the Chairwoman of the learning and teaching committee at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management in which she is leading the development of HKPolyUx MicroMasters Credential in International Hospitality Management. In addition, Professor Qiu has been actively involved in consulting and executive training programs.
Prof. Wei-I Lee was the first advocator of OpenCourseWare (OCW) movement in Taiwan in 2006. Under his direction, Taiwanese universities offered more than 1,200 OCWs with full class videos, attracting more than 200,000 unique users every month. In 2013 under the management of Prof. Lee, National Chiao Tung University launched the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform 'ewnat' in Taiwan. As of August 2017, the 'ewant' platform has collaborated with more than 86 universities and offered more than 500 online courses. Prof. Lee served on the Board of Directors of Open Education Consortium (OEC), from 2012 to 2014 and is now the Director of Research Center of Higher Educational Resources for Openness (Research Center of HERO) in National Chiao Tung University. Due to Prof. Lee’s contribution to the international open education communities, he was awarded the Open Education Leadership Award of Excellence in 2016 by OEC. In 2017, Prof. Lee initiated Sharing Education Taiwan (SET) movement. Along with being a strong advocator of online teaching, Prof. Lee has also utilized online teaching and flip-classroom technique within his own undergraduate and graduate courses since 2007.
Mr. Charlie Nguyen is the CEO & Founder of CMS Global. CMS Global provides global access to quality education for everyone through powering some of the largest universities to launch and/or expand their online modality. This expansion allows the University’s high quality programs to become more accessible and affordable to learners around the world. Previously as Vice President for the University of Phoenix, Charlie led vast multi-state operations. During his tenure with the University of Phoenix, he contributed to explosive growth in which enrollment tripled to almost 500,000 students and almost 1 million graduates. Subsequently, Charlie went on to lead Apollo Education Group’s expansion into Asia. As part of this assignment, he developed a services platform to allow AEG to transfer 'best in industry' online learning experience to regional partners and beyond. His core competencies are online operations, global partnership and general management.
