Presenters

Lead Presenter: Steve Acquah, University of Massachusetts Amherst

Dr. Steve Acquah is the Digital Media Lab Unit Coordinator, an Associate Professor of Chemistry (Adj.) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Director of GEOSET. He worked for the Nobel Laureate Sir Harold Kroto for over a decade to lead his research group on Fullerenes and create an educational outreach initiative to support learning around the world. He has created new technologies for carbon nanotube-based devices including flexible batteries, hydrogen sensors, and materials that generate electricity from movement. He is a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, and listed at one of the ‘175 Faces of Chemistry’ both past and present that have helped shape chemistry and science. At UMass Amherst, he leads a team that provides around 50 3D printers, pro-tier audio and video, and a Virtual Reality facility.

The Global Educational Outreach for Science, Engineering and Technology (GEOSET) initiative at Florida State University produces free educational content for people worldwide to support student class projects, science experiments, outreach support for academic funding proposals and supplements for a digital CV. It also connects to around 50 partner institutions and organizations around the world. Mediasite Video Platform is at the core of the initiative, which is further supported by the strong network of international collaborators that provide a diverse selection of educational presentations.
