New to Canvas LMS: Proctorio's Originality Verification & WebSweep Tools
Concurrent Session 2
Proctorio debuts two new product to it's Learning Integrity Platform: Plagiarism Detection & WebSweep.
Whether students are faced with immense pressure to succeed, are overwhelmed by their workload or come from a culture that defines “appropriate citation” differently, many factors can affect a student’s moral disposition when engaging in online assessment. In an effort to help instructors distinguish the intent of their students, Proctorio is launching two new plagiarism detection tools, which include originality verification, manipulation prevention and submission verification features. By implementing such tools into their assessment verification process, institutions are able to protect the value of their degrees and the integrity of the assignments they issue. This session will introduce Proctorio’s two newest features, Originality Verification and WebSweep, available in the Canvas LMS.
Proctorio’s Originality Verification feature scans students’ work for similarities across the internet, and will detect suspicious images, symbols and characters that may indicate a breach of integrity. If the software finds suspicious text, it will provide the instructor with a link to identify the source. .
WebSweep scans instructors’ test questions to detect if they can be found online, prior to the instructor publishing the quiz. Any matches are flagged for the instructor so they can ensure content originality.. Should a question be found online, instructors may request a takedown of the content on the web. These tools offer yet another layer of content protection to ensure exam integrity.
