Brief Abstract

More than a month and a half ago, all the schools around the world were forced to transition from the face-to-face classes to teaching remotely, entering the world of digital education. Like millions of teachers and students all over the world, we did our best


Adelia Esperanza Parrado-Ortiz, (PhD in Spanish from Florida International University, 2007) is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Bethune-Cookman University, since 2016. She was born in Bogotá, Colombia and has lived in the United States of America for more than 30 years where she married and had her three perfectly bilingual daughters. Dr. Parrado-Ortiz has accumulated almost nineteen years of experience teaching Spanish Language and Culture to college students and adult learners in Miami for her alma mater, Florida International University (2003-2008); also she taught for eight years in Hickory, NC for Lenoir-Rhyne University before coming back to Florida to work for B-CU. She currently teaches face-to-face and fully online Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture courses. Most recently, Dr. Parrado-Ortiz is working on several research projects related to Hispanic Studies and Literary Criticism of different genres and periods. She is also the leader of the B-CU’s Study Abroad to Spain program and is working on publishing her dissertation as a book with the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia.

to adjust to this new and unsettled world. We are fortunate that technology provides us with the tools to continue to teach and learn from the safety of our homes. This presentation will show how the transition from face-to-face teaching and learning of our MLS 131 & MLS 132 courses to the digital and online teaching shows how this transition is a lesson for educators to teach under a pandemia and provides motivation to continue to teach, taking a leap of faith outside of what we know to learn new teaching methods for the world we are now living in and how we are able have the ability to continue education even when schools are forced to close.
