Brief Abstract

globalEDGE.msu.edu is used by millions of people and companies in the United States and around the world each year to engage in the global marketplace.

Presenters

Sarah Singer is the Assistant Director of the Michigan State University International Business Center (MSU-CIBER). In this role, Sarah is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of globalEDGE.msu.edu, the world's leading online source for international business information and the hiring, training, and supervision of the globalEDGE student team. Sarah also leads the Center's nationally-recognized community college outreach activities, including the International Business Institute workshops, white paper series, and curriculum development initiatives. She assists with overall administration of Center projects, teaches an internationally-focused freshman seminar, and developed and leads the Business and Culture in Japan study abroad program. Sarah is a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) and serves on the national board of governors of NASBITE International.
Tunga Kiyak is the Managing Director of the Academy of International Business (AIB) where he is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of this nonprofit professional association of international business scholars and specialists. Tunga also serves as an Outreach Specialist at the International Business Center (IBC) at Michigan State University. In this capacity, he provides consulting, training, and research services, primarily to small and medium-sized-enterprises (SMEs), on a wide variety of subjects including exporting, market entry strategy, global strategy development, international market research, and cross-cultural competencies. He was the founding curator of globalEDGE, an international business knowledge web-portal. Tunga has been appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce to the East Michigan District Export Council (EMDEC), an organization of leaders whose knowledge of international business provides a source of professional advice for Michigan firms. In addition to having his research published in a variety of scholarly journals, Tunga is a frequent speaker to both professional and academic audiences including at events organized by the American Marketing Association, the Academy of International Business, the Academy of Management, the Lansing Chamber of Commerce, the Michiana World Trade Club, NASBITE, SCORE, various District Export Councils, the National Association for Environmental Managers, and the Institute of Supply Management. Tunga teaches multiple classes at Michigan State University including the introductory survey class in International Business for the undergraduate program, Data Analysis classes for both the Full-time MBA and the Executive MBA programs, and a statistical programming class for the MS in Marketing Research program. His previous teaching experience also includes classes on a variety of topics such as international business, international marketing, managerial marketing, business statistics, and entrepreneurship. Tunga holds a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bogazici University, Turkey; an MBA in Marketing & Finance; and a Ph.D. in Marketing & International Business from Michigan State University.

globalEDGE connects academics and international business professionals worldwide to a wealth of information, insights, and learning resources on global business activities. Among the myriad resources on globalEDGE are a Resource Desk with links to over 5000 high-quality international business websites, exporting tutorials, an extensive international business and trade glossary, and sections on trade blocs, countries, states, and industries featuring insights on doing business in the world's markets and industries. Additionally, globalEDGE features an international business blog, the Market Potential Index for Emerging Markets, a Database of International Business Statistics (DIBS), and numerous other tools and resources for the international business practitioner, researcher, or educator.

This presentation will also highlight the globalEDGE online international business module series. These modules cover topics from international entrepreneurship, to Doing Business in various countries and regions around the world provide, to a series on Exporting that was developed in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service.

Presentation goals: Introduce attendees to this outstanding open access resource, which has been profiled by the Wall Street Journal and is a three-time recipient of the American Library Association's RUSA/MARS "best reference website." The session will include a full website demo, allowing participants to explore all areas of the site.
