Extended Abstract

Mobile devices are ubiquitous in today's society and their use is normative behavior. By the year 2020, mobile devices will be the primary instrument used to access the internet. Recent studies have verified that students are driving the use of mobile devices within their learning environments and state these devices are advantageous to their academic success. Students expect to use them, and early studies indicate their potential in positively supporting teaching and learning.

This interactive session will provide an overview of mobile learning, explain why mobility matters, and suggest techniques for mobilizing your course. Participants will leave with a list of suggested apps, tips, tricks and tools that will promote mobile learning and transform teaching and learning.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
ï Define mobile learning and understand why it is important in today's learning environments
ï Recognize mobile applications that promote a personalized learning experience
ï Identify strategies for mobilizing course materials

Participants will be engaged throughout the session with interactive question and answer segments and will also have an opportunity to actively participate by interacting and personally experimenting with the demonstrated mobile applications. Each participant is encouraged to bring a smart phone or tablet with them to participate.
