Extended Abstract

This presentation will discuss the next generation of early-college programs. It will track a program that challenges the age-old model of Advanced Placement tests and classroom courses in which the high school teacher instructs a satellite college course. With a focus on digital literacy skills needed for success in undergraduate education, this presentation discusses the types of pre-college digital learning experiences available to high school students and provide insight on how they can gain these skills prior to entering their formal undergraduate learning experience.

Participants will be engaged in topics such as emerging adulthood theory, emerging adult technology use, and transitioning high school-aged students from social spaces to digital learning spaces. Additionally, the presentation will discuss effective delivery of such a program including student support services, accrediting body regulations, and faculty selection and training in such programs.
