Brief Abstract

Many academic programs and institutions know about the Gates Foundation grants awarded to institutions across our country but wonder how much work is involved and how difficult it is to become an awardee. Presenters and attendees will share their experiences with the grant proposal process and discuss the challenges as well as the amazing benefits of being awarded a Gates Foundation grant. Bring your questions to this session and be prepared to become more empowered to apply!

An Instructor and Instructional Designer in the School of Health Studies at the University of Memphis, Dr. Niki Bray currently teaches online and on-ground courses in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) department as well as courses that serve the School of Health Studies (i.e. Intro to Kinesiology and Intro to Exercise Physiology). In addition to teaching, Niki serves as the School of Health Studies' Instructional Designer where she provides pedagogical, technology-enhanced, and technical support to faculty within her school. Jennifer is responsible for the development of OLC's long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. She also provides leadership in researching and planning strategic initiatives, special projects and partnerships that align with OLC's mission, vision and goals. Dr. Mathes has nearly 20 years of experience in both public and private higher education where she has served as a faculty member and an academic leader. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she wrote her dissertation on “Predictors for Student Success in Online Education.” She also has earned a Master of Science degree in Business Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Illinois State University.
