Designing Courses For HyFlex Delivery

Brief Abstract
Identifying opportunities of hybrid learning for creating engaging and effective learning environments.
Extended Abstract
The impact of COVID has forced most institutions into some variation of the HyFlex delivery model. Today, many faculty are implementing the HyFlex model by using a web conference system, such as Zoom, simply as a “megaphone” to broadcast their regular in-class activities to remote students.
Unfortunately, these faculty are missing the opportunity to take advantage of the full power of hybrid learning. Courses must be redesigned to leverage synchronous and asynchronous learning elements in a mutually supporting manner to create a flexible, effective, and engaging learning environment that meets the needs of each student. This session will discuss the opportunities presented by hybrid delivery and how to design courses to take full advantage of those opportunities.
Session Objectives:
- Identify the opportunities of hybrid learning for creating engaging and effective learning environments
- List best practices for the design and development of hybrid learning
