Brief Abstract

Technology-enriched learning provides a level of insights never before seen, and the ability to support students in ways we've only started to explore. How do we leverage the full potential of data to improve teaching and learning while upholding our commitment to student privacy and security, and ensuring positive impact on a student’s desired outcomes?

Presenters

Joanna Ray is the Senior Account Executive at Instructure. She brings over 16 years of experience in eLearning leadership in higher education and K12 environments. In her prior role, Joanna served as a Director for Online Learning in the School of Education at Indiana University-Indianapolis and Principal eLearning Services Consultant at Indiana University where she advanced e-Learning initiatives, developed new online programs, and mentored educators transitioning to online and blended learning environments. She has developed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of Educational Technology at IUPUI.

Educators and advisors increasingly have access to near-real-time data about how well students are engaging with learning activities. What videos are they watching, are they participating in discussions, are their responses showing they're mastering the concepts? Technology-enriched learning provides a level of insights never before seen, and the ability to support students in ways we've only started to explore. How do we leverage the full potential of data to improve teaching and learning while upholding our commitment to student privacy and security, and ensuring positive impact on a student’s desired outcomes? In this session, we’ll address the following:

  1. What are the best methods for leveraging data to measure student engagement and success?
  2. How do we communicate with students the actions that need to be taken, based on what the data is telling us?
  3. How are other institutions leveraging data to advance and enrich learning?
