In this session, we will discuss how student choice can be thoughtfully incorporated can personalize course content to increase and deepen engagement. 

Extended Abstract

We know two things from recent research on online learning: Motivation among students is positively affected by understanding learner preferences and giving students choices in their learning, and students experiences with online classes correlate to the amount of professional development and support that faculty receive from their institutions. In this session, we will discuss how student choice can be thoughtfully incorporated can personalize course content to increase and deepen engagement. Let's talk about choice in assignments - attendees should bring their ideas, assignments that have gone well, advice for one another, or even puzzles about how to modify particular assignments!
