Qualitative Measures: What Rubrics Can't Assess

Concurrent Session 5

Brief Abstract

Extended Abstract

Most things that make online courses "quality" experiences for our students aren't easily measured on a quantitative rubric or scale. Still, those premium elements of both online course design and online teaching must be somehow defined, described, and looked for. So, how can we teach ourselves a new way of looking at, and evaluating, online courses and faculty in ways that honor those un-quantifiable components? In this session, an online faculty member, online department chair, and online administrator from different institutions will share strategies that help define and highlight what great online courses do best, to improve observation and evaluation, and more importantly course review and instructor training. Attendees will have opportunities to add ideas, ask questions, and offer their expertise.
