Leveraging Instructional Designers in Higher Education

Concurrent Session 2

Brief Abstract

Learn how to leverage the ID's on your campus by understanding the problems they solve, and and the varied and unique skill sets instructional designers bring to designing high impact learning content. Help us show why we think #IDFTW (instructional design for the win!!)

Kristin Powers is a learning scientist who holds degrees in Fine Art, English, and Digital Media. Powers has held a variety of jobs from IT for an institution, video game design for education, to owning a specialty bakery, but has always sought to understand how things work by testing and iterating. She is passionate about social emotional learning, empathy research, playful learning, serious games, science, and technologies that target ELL, minority, and struggling students.

Extended Abstract

Have you ever wondered what instructional designers actually do? Want to know how to build a better collaborative relationship with design teams on your campus? Leveraging our research from the Instructional Design in Higher Education Report, we hope to solve real problems from institutions just like yours at our upcoming workshop. Through a design-thinking process, attendees will strategize on ways to maximize the talents and innovation of instructional designers at their institution.
