Extending your stay or bringing your family? There is a lot to explore beyond National Harbor and the Washington DC area. The Potomac region is not only home to the nation’s capital but also to a diverse array of cultural and historical attractions reflecting the United States’ rich heritage. Here are a few ideas and links to get you started.
In addition to a myriad of shopping and activities, National Harbor offers a diverse culinary landscape with more than 40 restaurants and bars. Dining options include full dining experiences as well as quick service options. With the lovely fall weather in the Washington D.C. area resulting in an increase in visitors, we do recommend making dinner reservations in advance where possible.
Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center is located in the heart of the waterfront National Harbor, MD area.
Onsite: Spectacular Fountain Shows Nightly
The Atrium Fountain is a majestic display of lights, sound and dancing water that shoots 60-feet high. Gaze at the fountain from the Lower Atrium, or enjoy a bird’s-eye view while enjoying a cocktail at Belvedere Lobby Bar. See the fountain perform shows every night in our Atrium at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm. Show times subject to change.
National Harbor is just minutes from Old Town Alexandria, Georgetown, and the Washington Metropolitan Area. Want to see a panda? The National Zoo is for you! Interested in biking the George Washington Parkway down to nearby Mt. Vernon? Rent a bike from Capital Bikeshare. From the National Mall area with its dazzling monuments and Smithsonian Museums to the historic beauty and spectacular dining options of Old Town Alexandria, we encourage you to arrive at the conference early or stay late to explore all the things there are to do (many of them free!) in the Nation’s Capital.
While the D.C. Metro is the best way to traverse Washington D.C., it does not run directly to National Harbor. You are able to catch the Metro at nearby Eisenhower station (just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge) or King Street (Old Town Alexandria) stations if you desire to get into Washington D.C. to explore.
In order to get to Old Town Alexandria (just minutes across the river from National Harbor) or over to Georgetown for shopping and dining, we recommend you take a cab, Uber/Lyft, or adventure out with the City Cruises Water Taxi Service.
Old Town Alexandria is an easy trip, especially for dinner out. Georgetown is a little bit further, so plan accordingly. Water taxi reservations may be made online or at the ticket booth based on availability. Advance purchases are recommended. If you need to change your water taxi return time, you may do so at the ticket booth or over the phone for no charge as long as space is available. For more info, please call 877-511-2628. City Cruises by Hornblower reserves the right to change boats/schedules at any time.
