The Online Learning Consortium Names Dr. Jennifer Mathes CEO

Dr. Mathes assumes this leadership role after serving as interim CEO since last May, and at a time when OLC is focused on leading its community through a pivotal moment in digital learning’s evolution.

BOSTON, Mass. (April 7, 2020) — The Board of Directors of the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), the leading professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of digital learning worldwide, today announced that it has named Jennifer Mathes, Ph.D., as the organization’s chief executive officer, effective immediately.

Dr. Mathes assumes this leadership role after serving as interim CEO since last May. She came to OLC in 2015, and previously served as the organization’s Chief Strategy Officer and interim Chief Knowledge Officer.

“OLC is incredibly fortunate to have Jennifer leading the Consortium during this most critical time for our organization and higher education,” said Mary Niemiec, President of the OLC Board of Directors. “Jennifer has demonstrated exceptional leadership since stepping into the role of interim CEO last year, and has strategically responded to the recent environment of unprecedented disruption and transition, drawing upon her deep experience and understanding of our members’ complex needs. As we look to the future, I am confident she will ensure the continued advancement of OLC and an expansion of our services to support the evolving needs of the constituencies we serve.”

As CEO, Dr. Mathes is responsible for the development of OLC's long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. She also provides leadership in researching and planning strategic initiatives, special projects and partnerships that align with OLC's mission, vision and goals. Dr. Mathes has 25 years of experience in both public and private higher education where she has served as a faculty member and an academic leader.

Dr. Mathes holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also has earned a Master of Science degree in Business Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Illinois State University.
