What We Publish

OLC Insights welcomes contributions that explore:

Submission Guidelines

  • Length: 800-1000 words (flexible)
  • Formats: Written articles, videos, creative pieces
  • Originality: Must be unpublished and non-promotional
  • AI Use: Can assist, but should not be the primary creator
  • Enhancements: Images, infographics, and media are welcome (with proper permissions)


We do not publish traditional research articles or promotional content. Industry partners interested in showcasing products or services can contact membership@onlinelearning-c.org.

Writing Style

Write for a broad audience. Think journalistic, not academic. Your tone should be engaging and accessible—like business casual, not a formal interview.

What to Expect

  • We aim to respond within two weeks.
  • Revisions may be requested, and minor editorial changes will be made for clarity and readability.

Evaluation Criteria

1. Grammar and Mechanics

  • Writing is free of spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
  • Sentences are clear and concise; avoids jargon unless explained.
  • Acronyms and abbreviations are spelled out on first use.

2. Tone and Style

  • Tone is professional, collegial, and accessible to a broad digital learning audience.
  • Language avoids overly promotional or self-congratulatory phrasing.
  • Style is consistent (e.g., APA references, neutral voice where needed).

3. Length and Structure

  • Submission fits within recommended word range (generally 800-1000 words).
  • Paragraphs are well-structured and not overly long.
  • Sections are logically organized with headings/subheadings where appropriate.

4. Audience Fit

  • Content is relevant to OLC’s practitioner and scholar community (faculty, instructional designers, administrators, digital learning leaders).
  • Examples and terminology are understandable for both academic and practitioner audiences.
  • Avoids being too narrowly institutional or context-bound without broader application.

5. Relevance and Contribution

  • Topic is innovative, timely and aligned with current issues in online, blended, or digital learning.
  • Submission contributes new perspectives, practical strategies, or thought leadership.
  • Connections to OLC frameworks, values, or broader field conversations are clear.

6. Clarity of Purpose

  • Clear thesis or central argument is evident early in the piece.
  • Purpose (inform, reflect, propose, share practice) is explicit and consistently supported.
  • Reader takeaway is clear and actionable.

7. Evidence and Support

  • Claims are supported with evidence (data, literature, practice-based insights).
  • References and citations are included where appropriate and properly formatted.
  • Paywalled or inaccessible sources are avoided; open and accessible references are preferred.

8. Accessibility and Inclusivity

  • Tables, figures, or visuals meet accessibility guidelines (e.g., do not rely on color alone; include alt text).
  • Language is inclusive, avoiding bias or assumptions about learners.
  • Structure supports readability (e.g., lists, headings, consistent formatting).

9. Originality and Ethics

  • Submission is original and not previously published elsewhere.
  • Proper credit is given for external sources, ideas, or images.
  • No plagiarism, AI-generated text without author oversight, or duplicate submissions.

10. Overall Readiness

  • Submission is well-polished and publication-ready with minimal editorial intervention.
  • Only minor revisions (if any) are required to meet OLC Insights standards.
  • Fits OLC Insights mission: advancing innovation, practice, research, and community in digital learning.
