This scholarship recognizes individuals achieving extraordinary accomplishments in the field of online education at an early stage (less than five years) in their careers and is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to online education. Nominees should be known for leadership activities, service to the profession, scholarly publications, and/or contributions to advancing the field.

Recipients will be recognized at the Accelerate conference with a commemorative plaque and will receive Accelerate conference registration, 3 nights hotel room, and a $300 travel stipend. 

Nominations and Submissions

The Bruce N. Chaloux Scholarship for Early Career Excellence is evaluated on the nominee’s leadership and contributions to the field of online learning with a focus on leadership potential.

Materials required for submission:

  • The nominee’s CV
  • A detailed description of the nominee’s individual achievements related to online education and how they fulfill the award criteria
  • Three letters of support referencing the evaluation criteria (below), including letters from at least one faculty member and one administrator
Evaluation Criteria

The Bruce N. Chaloux Scholarship for Early Career Excellence is evaluated on four primary criteria:

  • Leadership Activities: The nominee has demonstrated leadership in the field of online education at the institutional, local, regional, national, and/or international level.
  • Service: The nominee has performed a significant number and variety of activities that demonstrate service to the field of online education and its constituent community.
  • Contributions to Advancing the Field: The nominee’s work has contributed significantly to the overall advancement of online education.
  • Scholarly Research and Writing: The nominee has contributed to scholarly activities that have increased knowledge and/or contributed to practice within the field of online education. Examples include but are not limited to publications, presentations, and research.

This scholarship was established to provide access and opportunities to online learning professionals who are part of a historically excluded community, based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability differences, socioeconomic status, etc. Preference will be given to nominees who have made significant contributions to the field focused on equity and inclusion.

Recipients will be recognized at the next conference with a commemorative plaque and will receive Innovate conference registration, 3 nights hotel room, and a $300 travel stipend.

The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Scholarship is evaluated on the nominee’s leadership and contributions to the field of online learning with a focus on equity, inclusion, diversity and advocacy.

  • The nominee’s CV
  • Three letters of support addressing the evaluation criteria (below)

Applicants should:

  • Be individuals of a historically excluded community, based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability differences, socioeconomic status, etc.
  • Be contributors to our field around the topics of equity and inclusion
  • Require assistance with funding their conference attendance
