Graduates of the Online Learning Consortium Online Teaching Certificate

The OLC Online Teaching Certificate prepares faculty to teach or improve online courses using the OLC pillars of quality in online education. A unique feature of the certificate program is that expert mentors work individually with each certificate candidate to accomplish specific goals. The certificate consists of a 9-week foundational course and three (3) elective workshops. Upon completing the certificate, each graduate will have an online portfolio that demonstrates proficiencies. For more information: www.sloanconsortium.org

The Online Teaching Certificate helped me to expand my base beyond the instructors who teach online at my home institution. The most valuable area for me was the interaction with other learners from institutions around the country. It was great to interact on common problems and see multiple solutions.

The Online Teaching Certificate Program was extremely valuable. Even though I had been teaching online for several years, I consistently learned new knowledge and skills that I could put to use immediately in my online course design and delivery. The workshop moderators and mentors were highly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and encouraging. I enjoyed and learned from interacting online with both my instructors and my peers. I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in online learning and instruction.

The workshops offered in the OLC Online Teaching Certificate enhanced my knowledge of online learning and pedagogy from a faculty perspective, which aided my role in course development and review. The freedom to select the topics to study allowed me to cater the certificate to fit my goals. As an added bonus, the certificate enhanced my credentials as an instructional developer and educator. Just a year later I was offered a new position with a significant raise, due in part, no doubt, to earning this certificate.

The OLCcertification program is a flexible online program that provides participants the opportunity to learn current information, tips and techniques about teaching online, and the chance to interact with educators from all over the globe to share ideas. Workshop facilitators are knowledgeable and helpful, and topics include the latest in areas of interest to those who teach or administer online programs. I met people in the Sloan workshops who I have continued to dialog with since I completed the program, and I feel like I am a more qualified educator as a result of earning my OLC certification.

Being able to participate in several of the workshops, either mandatory or elective, for the OTC (online teaching certificate) has proven to be both an added value and a challenge. Being involved in Blended Learning for several years the OTC provided the perfect opportunity to get in touch with experts, peers and newcomers in the field. Being exposed to a larger pool of ideas was an excellent way to discuss and compare my methodologies with others and both to confirm and/or confront different approaches. Overall it was a very rewarding experience and I can only emphasize that it is just …”the end of the beginning.”
